Hg/HgO Reference Electrode, Alkaline | FrankLab

The FrankLab Hg/HgO Reference Electrode is the industry standard for alkaline electrochemistry, delivering a highly stable and reproducible reference potential in KOH-based electrolytes. It is widely used in OER/HER studies, transition-metal oxide catalysts, zinc–air and alkaline batteries, and alkaline fuel cells.
Constructed from high borosilicate glass and a corrosion-resistant PTFE top, this electrode ensures long service life and excellent chemical stability even under harsh alkaline conditions.

Key Features

• Designed for Alkaline Electrolytes (KOH / NaOH)

Optimized for 0.1–6 M KOH systems:
•Highly stable potential
•Low drift during long-term operation
•Far superior to Ag/AgCl in high-pH environments
Reference potential (typical): +0.098 V vs. NHE in 1 M KOH (25°C) (Adjustable based on internal KOH concentration)

• High Borosilicate Glass Construction

All FrankLab glass electrodes use premium high borosilicate glass, ensuring:
•Excellent resistance to strong alkaline solutions
•High thermal shock tolerance
•Smooth internal surfaces for minimal contamination
•Long structural life in demanding electrochemical conditions

• Low-Drift, Low-Noise Potential

The Hg/HgO redox couple is one of the most stable reference systems for alkaline conditions:
•Reliable for multi-hour and multi-day CA/CP/EIS
•Reproducible data across repeated cycles
•Ideal for kinetics and mechanistic research

• Compatible with a Wide Range of Alkaline Systems

Perfect for:
•OER/HER electrocatalysis
•Nickel, cobalt, iron oxide/hydroxide catalysts
•Zinc–air and alkaline rechargeable batteries
•Alkaline polymer electrolyte fuel cells
•Transition-metal electrochemistry
