Mercury Sulfate Reference Electrode (Hg/Hg₂SO₄) | FrankLab

High-Stability, Chloride-Free Reference Electrode for Sensitive Aqueous Electrochemistry High Borosilicate Glass Body + Full Customization Available

Mercury Sulfate Electrode (Hg/Hg₂SO₄) | FrankLab

A chloride-free, highly stable aqueous reference electrode widely used in sulfate-containing electrolytes, acidic media, metal dissolution studies, corrosion testing, and environments where chloride contamination must be strictly avoided.
The FrankLab Mercury Sulfate Electrode provides a well-defined reference potential, excellent long-term stability, and superior chemical compatibility, built with a durable high borosilicate glass body and a corrosion-resistant PTFE head.

Key Features

• Chloride-Free Reference System

The Hg/Hg₂SO₄ redox couple does not involve chloride ions, making it ideal for systems where chloride must be avoided, such as:
•Metal dissolution and deposition studies
•Corrosion measurements in sulfate electrolytes
•Acidic electrocatalysis
•Battery or redox chemistry sensitive to chloride interference
Reference potential (25°C): +0.640 V vs. NHE (in saturated K₂SO₄) (FrankLab offers multiple concentration options.)

• High Borosilicate Glass Construction

All FrankLab glass electrodes are made from premium high borosilicate glass, offering:
•Excellent thermal shock resistance
•Strong chemical durability in acidic sulfate solutions
•Smooth, low-contamination surfaces
•Long-term structural stability for repeated laboratory use

• Stable & Low-Drift Potential

The mercury sulfate system exhibits:
•Highly reproducible potential
•Low drift during long-term measurements
•Reliable baseline for CV, LSV, and EIS
Ideal for kinetic studies, mechanistic research, and multi-hour corrosion tests.

• Low Leakage Junction

Available with ceramic or PTFE junctions:
•Minimal electrolyte contamination
•Reduced junction potential
•Improved performance in low-ionic-strength sulfate systems
