Product Description

Reversible Hydrogen Electrode (RHE)

Product Overview
The Reversible Hydrogen Electrode (RHE) is a primary reference electrode widely used in electrochemical research, particularly in electrocatalysis, water splitting, CO₂ reduction, and pH-dependent electrochemical studies. Unlike conventional reference electrodes, the RHE provides a direct potential reference linked to the hydrogen redox equilibrium, eliminating the need for external pH correction during data interpretation.
This RHE is designed for high-precision laboratory and engineering applications, offering excellent stability, reproducibility, and compatibility with acidic, neutral, and alkaline electrolytes. Its modular glass body and standardized dimensions allow seamless integration into a wide range of electrochemical cells, including flow cells, gas diffusion cells, and H-type cells.

Operating Principle
The RHE is based on the hydrogen redox reaction:
H2 ⇌2H++2e−
At equilibrium, the electrode potential is governed by the Nernst equation:
ERHE =ESHE∘ −0.059×pH(25∘C)
Because the hydrogen activity is fixed at unity, the RHE potential automatically shifts with pH, making it a universal reference electrode for comparing electrochemical data across different electrolyte environments.
Key Advantages
Direct pH-compensated reference No post-measurement pH correction required when reporting potentials versus RHE.
Universal applicability Suitable for acidic, neutral, and alkaline electrolytes.
High potential accuracy and stability Ideal for kinetic studies, Tafel analysis, and long-term electrolysis experiments.
Excellent compatibility Designed to fit standard electrochemical ports and flow-cell configurations.
Research-grade construction Glass body with precise dimensions ensures chemical resistance and reproducibility.
