Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE) | Hydrodynamic Working Electrode | FrankLab

Precision Disk Electrode for Controlled Mass-Transport Electrochemistry — Glassy Carbon, Platinum, or Gold Disk Material

Product Overview
The FrankLab Rotating Disk Electrode (RDE) is a high-precision working electrode designed for electrochemical studies under controlled hydrodynamic conditions. When paired with an electrochemical rotator, the RDE creates a laminar flow perpendicular to the disk surface, providing stable and reproducible mass-transport control and enabling advanced kinetic and mechanistic analysis.
RDEs are essential tools for:
Electrocatalysis & reaction kinetics
Mass transport studies (Levich, Koutecky–Levich analysis)
Electrode reaction order & diffusion studies
ORR, CO₂RR, HER/OER screening
Benchmarking catalyst performance

Key Features
Precision Disk Materials
Select from high-quality disk materials, each suited to different research needs:
• Glassy Carbon Disk — chemically inert and widely used for general electroanalysis.
• Platinum (Pt) Disk — excellent catalytic surface for oxidation/reduction mechanisms.
• Gold (Au) Disk — ideal for thiol/self-assembly and highly stable electrochemistry.
Disk materials are sealed within PTFE or PEEK insulating shrouds for durability.

• Standard Disk Diameter
• 5.00 mm (typical) — widely compatible with Pine RDE systems.
• 6.00 mm (optional) — for larger area studies.

• Insulating Shroud
PTFE or PEEK rod/shroud materials — chemical resistance suitable for acid, neutral, or alkaline electrolytes.

• Threaded Mounting
External or male threaded connection for easy RDE shaft attachment and rotation. Material options include PTFE or PEEK encasement depending on model.
